12 Sep Report on September LIVE Auction and Announcing The Date of October Online Auction
Our Heroes and Icons auction promised to create a stir, and it did not disappoint!
This beautifully curated auction showcased some wines from across the globe; most of which were secured by our astute bidders (76% lots sold). We were proud to present both bottle and magnum formats (and even larger) which proved to be a popular mix.
Amongst the Heroes offered a 1952 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac 1500ml attracted $1762.50 on the night of the auction. The 2000 Chateau Lafite Rothschild also attracted $1762.50. We were thrilled to offer two bottles of 2005 Chateau Latour which each sold for $1292.50 ($2585 in total). The iconic Remy Martin Louis XIII (1938-40 bottling) was a standout sale being snapped up for $4465 at the end of some very competitive bidding.
We had a strong selection of the sought-after usual suspects. Te Mata, Stonyridge, Felton Road, Penfolds and Prophets Rock were in strong demand. Te Mata Coleraine 1500ml across a variety of vintages averaged just under $250. Penfolds Grange across a variety of vintages fetched between $470 – $540.50, with the 1996 vintage attracting $646.25. The vertical of Penfolds Grange magnums is currently still under negotiation and we look forward to a positive result for both vendor and buyer shortly.
Champagne always attracts the attention of our bidders. MV Krug Grande Cuvee (1970s Bottling – $470) and 1989 Lanson Collection 1500ml ($434.75). Sauternes were equally popular including 1995 Chateau d’Yquem ($470).
As we closed out the auction, we offered an incredible selection of Port from the highly sought-after vintages of 1963, 1970 and 1977. A few highlights include 1963 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port ($387.75), 1963 Warres Vintage Port ($305.50), 1970 Fonseca Vintage Port ($282), 1977 Grahams Vintage Port ($258.50).
A heartfelt thank you to all our bidders for helping to create an exciting event at Caro’s Wines Grey Lynn and for welcoming the new Spring season. We look forward to seeing you all again for our next online auction commencing Wednesday 02 October at midday. We are also in the process of curating our next live auction for November at Caro’s Wines Grey Lynn and we have some wonderful wines to share with you all.
