Report on October Online Auction and Announcing The Date of November LIVE Auction

October 2019 Online Auction – Top Wines.  Great results.

We were tickled to present this most recent auction and it appears you were equally thrilled with what we had to offer.  We had a range of options for different preferences ensuring we catered to most tastes and interests.  Sales results saw bottles fetching thousands to hundreds and all the way through to teens.

Standout purchases for Champagne include MV Krug Grand Cuvee ($411.25) and 1982 Charles Heidsieck Brut Millesime ($211.50)

2005 Destiny Bay Aeolus from Waiheke continues to be a sought-after Kiwi wine ($176.25), as too are Matakana wines with 1994 The Antipodean achieving $411.25.  Martinborough continues to represent great value (and great drinking) with 1999 Martinborough Vineyards Pinot Noir achieving $58.75.  With the festive season fast approaching, there’s no surprise that the 1998 Coopers Creek Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 6 litre found a new home ($822.50).

Our recent success with Grange continues with this auction featuring bottles from vintages 1999 – 2005.  Penfolds Grange Bin 95 2006 achieved over $500 with the remaining vintages securing slightly shy of this amount.  Still in South Australia, 1995 Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz achieved $822.50.  A great purchase.  Not to be outdone, 1998 Penfolds Bins 707, 407 and 389 all attracted great interest and outstanding value.

As ever, our French collection was a hit.  We offered two vintages of the renowned Chateau Latour from Pauillac – both sold.  1996 Chateau Latour ($1,292.50) and 1962 Chateau Latour ($963.50).  From Burgundy, 2 bottles of 1982 Joseph Drouhin Marquis de Laguiche Montrachet Grand Cru attracted $646.25 and $587.50.

Finishing with something a little sweeter, it’s always hard to pass-by Sauternes.  1999 Chateau d’Yquem 375ml ($293.75).  Ports are also flexing the popularity muscle.  1972 Fonseca Guimaraens Reserve and 1977 Taylors Vintage both achieved $235 in this sale.

At The Wine Auction Room we do all that we can so that our customers can bid with confidence.  We are proud to advise our team will be attending the Wine Fraud and Counterfeiting Authentication training event this October 12-13.  This helps us best identify and value wine so that you can continue to rely on the quality and provenance on the wines we offer.

As ever, we love hearing from you and we always enjoy seeing you in our sale room (virtual and physical).  Our November auction will be a live/online sale on Tuesday November 12 at Caro’s Wine Merchants Grey Lynn. The auction will commence at 6.30pm.We look forward to seeing you then (if not sooner).
