Report on March Online Auction and Announcing The Date of April Auction

Having 515 lots in total, our March Rare & Fine Wine online auction attracted many registered bidders who helped us to create some new records; for that, we are very proud and grateful.

The highest successful bid was the 2000 Armand Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru, which sold for $2350, a great buy that will definitely create some envy.

France was well represented with not only great Burgundies but also Alsatian wines from a wonderful purpose-built underground cellar. The 2006 Domaine Clos de Tart ‘Clos de Tart’ Grand Cru achieved $587.5 whereas the 2002 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Auslese Riesling sold for $88/bottle.

Australia was very strong with some great value and super exciting wines. Penfolds once again led the show with a sell-through rate of 100%. The 1990 Penfolds Bin 95 Grange achieved $634 and closely followed by its 2001, 2002, 2011 and 2012 vintage. The 1990 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz achieved $188. One of our favourites, 2005 Cullen Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot was snapped for $152.75. The most popular lot was the 2007 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz, which attracted more than 70 views, and finally went home with one happy bidder who marked the winning bid at $129.25.

New Zealand had the usual suspects with the standouts being the 2010 Destiny Bay Mystae which was sold for $270.25, followed by 2007 Stonyridge Larose, $246.75. Also from Waiheke, The 1994 Dunleavy Te Motu Cabernet Sauvignon/ Merlot scored $211.5. The 2006 Bell Hill Pinot Noir 2006 scored $223.25, and 2008 Felton Road Block 3, $188. The 2013 Te Mata Coleraine (we believe this vintage will be attracting the same kind of prices the 1998 is currently getting in years to come) achieved $188.

The fortified/distilled section was also strong, with 1977 Taylors Vintage Port sold for $211.5 and the 1977 Grahams Vintage Port snapped at $176.25.

Our April auction will be a LIVE/online sale on Tuesday 7th April at Caro’s Wine on 14 Mackelvie Street, Grey Lynn. This auction will commence at 6.30pm. As always, our auction will be streamed live on auctions.wineauctionroom.com so those who are unable to make it into the sale room can still participate. We have got some great wines lined up for this auction and will have something special to taste that evening too.
