Report on March Auction & Announcing The Date of April LIVE Auction

We may have been under heightened government restrictions during our March Online Auction but that did not bother our great number of bidders who lapped up the lots on offer to help us achieve another great sale; the third for the year.  These fantastic results left broad smiles on the faces of both our vendors and bidders; a proud moment for The Wine Auction Room team.

This auction featured many of the usual suspects, where the 1996 Petrus led the show and got the highest hammer, selling for $2937.50. The standout selection from Burgundy was close behind with the 2010 Domaine du Comte Liger Belair Echezeaux Grand Cru selling for $1880 and the 2013 Domaine du Comte Liger Belair Vosne-Romanee La Colombiere, which got snapped at $940. And there were white burgundies too, which represent great value for money, the 1990 Ramonet Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru reached $411.25 while the 2009 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru sold for $305.50.

Up north in Champagne, we had a stellar line-up of some well-cellared vintage delights, 1973 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blanc reached $881.25, while 1975 Pol Roger Chardonnay (Blanc de Blanc) sold for $646.25, and 1979 Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque achieved $587.50. The ‘king of the non-vintage’, MV Krug Grande Cuvee sold for $528.75.

Italy has been performing really well for the past year, and this month was no different. Both 2002 & 2003 Masseto Tenuta dell’Ornellaia sold for $881.25. The Masseto has been offered from the private collection of a former distributor and we are blessed to be able to offer a great volume of this well performing wine.

The Port selection had some ready to drink aged wines where all the cellaring has been done for the bidder. 1977 Graham’s Vintage Port, 1977 Fonseca Vintage Port and 1977 Warre’s Vintage Port, all sold for $223.25 each, but to three different bidders. This was surpassed by the Taylors 1977 which hammered a whopping $493.50!

Our next auction will be a LIVE/online event on Tuesday 6 April at Caro’s Wine 14 Mackelvie Street, Grey Lynn. Please note the auction will start at 6.00pm. As usual, this will be streamed live on auctions.wineauctionroom.com. We have got some great wines lined up for this auction and, as always, we will have something special to taste that evening too.

Many thanks to all our vendors and bidders. We look forward to seeing you all in our April Live/online auction.
