15 Mar Report on Late Summer Auction & Announcing the Date of Autumn LIVE Auction
Our Late Summer auction was not only our largest auction yet, with an incredible collection of 572 lots, but also went beyond its confident presale estimates. Thank you to all our bidders and long-term supporters from the wine community who contributed to its success.
We shaped this auction differently with many of the lots from the Southern Hemisphere. Not surprisingly Penfolds led the show with 2008 Penfolds Bin 620 achieving $1292.50, followed by 2004 Penfolds Bin 60A at $1104.50. Both 2004 Penfolds Bin 707 magnum and 1994 Penfolds Grange Bin 95 sold for $846. 2010 Stonyridge Larose achieved $258.50 marking the total lot value with 6 bottles at $1551. Te Mata Coleraine from the most sought after vintage of 1998, achieved an amazing $481.75.
We also had a large number of South African wines available; brought to New Zealand by their owner and stored in a temperature and humidity-controlled cellar. This well curated collection certainly achieved the attention it deserved. Some highlights include 1965 KWV Limited Release Port archived $105.75, 1939 KWV Boberg Superior Tawny Port sold for $76.40 and 2009 Bouchard Finlayson Hannibal reached $58.75.
The Old World came back fighting with 2005 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche Grand Cru taking the highest hammer for the auction at $2408.75, closely followed by 2009 Domaine du Comte Liger Belair Aux Reignot Vosne Romanee at $2350. 1998 Bouchard Pere & Fils Comte Liger-Belair La Romanee Grand Cru achieved $1762.50. The equally excellent Bordeaux section saw 1994 Chateau Lafite Rothschild achieving $2056.25 and 2000 Chateau Latour sold for $1645 while 1982 Chateau Leoville-Las Cases reached $1586.25. It’s worth to mention that 2005 Chateau Angelus was sold for $1057.50, a wine we’ve noticed experience continuous and substantial value gain in recent years.
Other highlights including 2004 Dominus Estate Christian Moueix from Napa reached for $611. Also from Napa, 2016 Continuum Sage Mountain Vineyard sold for $364.25; 2007 Dow’s Vintage 3 Litre got snapped at $881.25; 1975 Pol Roger Chardonnay (Blanc de Blanc) sold for $681.50; 2007 Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese sold for $470.
Our next auction will be a LIVE/online event on Tuesday 5th April at Caro’s Wine 14 Mackelvie Street, Grey Lynn. Please note the auction will start at 6.00 pm.
