15 Jul Report on July Auction and Announcing The Date of August Auction
In our July online auction, we had over 120 bidders which helped us to create some new records. The second quarter of 2020 has taken us all into uncharted territory, yet at The Wine Auction Room, we are extremely grateful to have navigated these waters rather smoothly with your tremendous support. And we were proud to present another catalogue stuffed with goodies.
We had the best Aussie “All-Stars” lineup leading the show, with 1984 Penfolds Grange Bin 95 scored the highest win at $634.50, followed by its vintage 1985 at $587.50 and vintage 2003 at $564. Another two legends with a strong cult following, 1995 Jim Barry Armagh Shiraz was sold at $258.50, 1988 Wendouree Shiraz was snatched up at $223.25, great buys!
From home, the Pinots were the queen of the auction, with 2013 Bell Hill Pinot Noir scored $211.50, followed by Prophet’s Rock Cuvee aux Antipodes Pinot Noir sold at $105.75. We also had some great Bordeaux blends from their best vintages, 1998 Te Mata Coleraine was sold at $223.25, both 2005 Te Mata Coleraine and 2005 Destiny Bay Aeolus were snatched at $176.25, and 2001 Craggy Range Quarry at $164.50.
From the varieties’ French origins, 1997 Chateau Latour scored $587.50, 1998 Chateau Palmer was sold at $411.25, and 2011 Michel Gros Clos Vougeot Grand Maupertuis Grand Cru was sold at $211.50.
The fortified/distilled section was also strong, with 1977 Calem Vintage Port sold for $387.75, 1977 Grahams Vintage Port scored $270.25 and 1977 Warres Vintage Port snapped at $199.75.
All of above highlights are great winter reds that are perfect for socialising to celebrate our collective health.
