26 Aug Report on August Special Online Auction & Announcing The Date of September Auction
Two weeks ago, we opened a special, quirky online auction outside of our normal schedule for our bidders to muse over. The Collection of a Liquor Industry Giant ( just like our vendor) was loved by all. The Industry Giant (both metaphorically and physically) had over 50 years in the industry and is a true gentleman. Faced with the need to downsize, his loved collection of wines, spirits, liqueurs, and curios was handed over to The Wine Auction Room for this special, single-vendor sale.
In this auction, many of the wines offered were six bottles in one lot — that is, the keenly priced reserves were for the entire lot rather than a per bottle value. 6 bottles of 1993 Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz scored $338.40, six bottles of Hawkes Bay Red Special Selection sold for $211.50, while six bottles of Tyrrell’s Semillon in one lot was snapped up at $129.25. Not surprisingly, the highest value was commanded for the Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac, sold for $1351.25, a great buy! The quirky and collectible Old Grandad Bourbon Bottle & Lamp achieved $411.25. There were many great value items to be had and a sell-through rate of 94% was very pleasing.
We hoped to present this carefully crafted auction to suit all wallets and to delight lovers of wine and other curiosities. Based on your feedback, it seems this is exactly what was achieved. Thanks everyone for your interest and enthusiasm in this slightly offbeat selection and a special thank you to the family of our single vendor for choosing the trust with The Wine Auction Room team with this very special collection.
Finally, you might have seen our next online auction is opening at 12pm on Wednesday 2nd September, and closing at 7pm on Sunday 6th September. If you’re keen to see what’s on offer, feel free to browse the catalogue currently available to view.
